Of course we need REST & RELAXATION but more than that we need to become mindful in our thought patterns...

We have the ability to shift harmful thought patterns and imbalanced emotions through conscious movement , shape the body,

breathe, and focus mind attention to every thought a positive ....relax ....release....recharge

After The Holidays Cleansing & Healing

Posted on November 25, 2017 at 8:40 AM

Over time ,toxins build up in the  body as the result of pollutants in the air we breathe, the chemicals in the food and water we consume, and other means...Periodically the body seeks to rid itself of the toxins and release them from the tissues. The toxins enter the body via the blood stream causing the body to experience a "low" or "down" cycle. During such a cycle you may experience headaches, diarrhea,or depression.

Cleansing is an important rest time for our bodies to rebuild our energy sources. Fasting is an effective safe method of helping the body detoxify itself and move through this low cycle with greater speed and fewer symptoms.

In fact fasting is recommended for any illness, as it gives the body the rest it needs to recover. By relieving the body of the work of digesting foods, fastig permits the system to rid itself of toxinswhile facilitaitng healing.

Fasting is not just helpful  in the times of poor health or during the body's low cycles. By fasting regularly ,you give all your body's organs a rest, and thus help reverse the agingprocess and live a longer and healthier life.

Even Short Time-outs give  our Internal Organs time  to take a break even a little break....just replacing one(1) cup of coffee with a cup of any of many herbal teas can be an internal support break for our bodies.Try  Herbal teas Earthmuffin's  Lemongrass ginger , lemon herbs cleanser, Peppermint( digestion support), and lemongrass refrsh mint, orange spice and many others.

Due to the effects of fasting, a fast can help you heal with greater speed; cleanse your blood;your liver; your kidneys;and your colon; purify your blood and help you to lose weight and water; flush out oxins; clear the eyes & tongue; and cleanse the breath. It is recommended  that you fast at least 3 days pee month , and follow a 10 day fast once per year. Depending on the length of a fast, it accomplishes different things. A three day fast helps the body rid  itself of toxins and cleanses the blood. A five- day fast begins the process of healing & rebuilding the immune system. A ten-day fast can take care of many problems before they arise and help to fight off illnesses, degenerative diseases that have become so common in our chemically polluted environment.

Consult your Doctor's advice for the process which your body's organs go thru during a fast, for chosing  healthy liquids & juices & for any needed medical advice.

Aromatherapy is rooted in herbal & folk medicine traditions which date back to prehistoric times. Ancient Egyptians,( Queen of Egypt's Cleopatra), was known to float florals & essences in her bath , she was though, the last of Macedonian Greeks dynasty era, Romans, Hebrews, Indians, and Chinese documented the use of fragrances for cosmetics, and medicinal purposes. Natural aromatics and perfumes were highly prized by early traders.

Aromatherapy came to  North America from Europe.  The term "Aromatherapy" was first used in 1928 by Rene- Maurice Gattefosse, a French chemist who worked in his family's perfume business and became fascinated with the therapeutic potential of essential oils. Not long afterward, a French Physician, Dr. Jean Valnet, began using essential oils for treating medical & psychiatric disorders. Marguerite Maury. a cosmetologist who studied Valnet's research. applied it to beauty therapy and set up the first Aromatherapy clincs in France, Britain, & Switzerland. The recent popularity of aromatherapy has made high quality essential oils, fragrance oils, and unscented base products readily available.

It is certainly no wonder that a relaxing, scented bath can soothe, people need to relax more in the bath tub, which can soothe & renew our spirits!  Although no medical claims are made here, essential oils of plants are believed to have pharmacological, physiological, and psychological effects , and specific qualities are attributed to them. 12 drops of essential oils Breathe in - relaxation-comfort-uplifting spirits & share with friends- centuries old esential oil therapy for well being.

Unplugged Meditation: Instant Karma

Posted on July 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM

We all work on &  talk  Body Work but first we need Instant Karma  above & beyond ......relaxation in sacred space for Meditation & Calming the Mind!

Upscale Meditiation not just in San Francisco or LA but right here where you are.... Mindfulness for yourself......

Before you Meditate, you must surrender your iphone. At least that is what a couple of serene women tell me when i

walked thru an "unplugged Meditation", an airy studio  space in the Mts. near Lake Champlain.. with inspirational slogans on the walls

(keep going! Live the Life You Love)!

I visit  only periodically for 45- minute class called "Inner Peace" ( as I have always kept sacred space & spa) in my home environment, my life.

Inner Peace promises to teach us the basics of "mindfulness" making us calmer, more productive, more focused, and more joyful.

I attend for Joyfulness!

According to the guidelines for "mindfulness"-based stress reduction, an eight week program, some practitioners may find that negative emotionsworsen before they improve. This is simply because of heightened awareness. Willoughby Britton, a professor of psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University wrote studies challenging meditation experiences( you can read hs writings/newsletters online), he suggests seeking out teachers with meditation-instructor training and at least 3 years experience in personal pratice. But the onus is also on the studios. It would be easy to dismiss the trend as superficial, but as with exercise, many people ar more likely to develop beneficial habits with the help of guided  sessions. It is like going to fitness class for the mind....

After passing through her gift shop, which peddles crystals, aromatherepy & Earthmuffin's scented soy candles & mist

for( Bad Spirit Remover), I settle into a black faux-leather floor seat. Violet lights beam down on a dozen people, from spandexxed millennials to graying businessmen & women. It's like a yoga studio without the yoga.

"Thoughts can make you sick or they can empower us" she says. " We want them to empower us" , positively.. "She instructs us to lift an index  finger everytime a thought arisies." " Remember you are not the thought, You are aware of your thoughts". Spa music wafts from the speakers thru the air as index fingers tap out a frantic morse code. A truck door closes,  eventually a bell rings, She says," I will be outside"..

"if you want to ask a question or share- or if you just want a healing hug".....

A certain number of us know intuitively that much greater depths are possible.. But the fact that anybody goes in for 10 to  30 minutes to quiet their mind and tend to their body and listen to their heart......Hallelujah!

I see it as an offering that  serves people-  right where they are. and that's the point........Peace :)

Earthmuffin's Herbal Tick Repel: TICK FLICK

Posted on July 25, 2017 at 10:10 AM

Earthmuffin's Latest & Greatest research for : HERBAL  TICK REPEL: TICK FLICK/ Tm

Finest essential oils by steam distillation of fresh garden Lemon Balm ( meliisa offinicinalis), & most effective oils of nepetalactone  (catnip) by way of pure distillation here at Earthmuffins'then  handblended  with  100% essential oils.

We used to & still grow essential oils based flowering plants in our gardens. Read on......

Throughout time, people who have  lived & spent more time outdoors have known what to plant to keep insects from biting them constantly.

We seem to have forgotten some of these useful plants &  their ease for growing......

Many of our ancestors lived where rosemary can be grown year round and knew what an effective repellent it was, it was used to clean & disinfect bacteria & kill  insects during the "Great Plague". Rosemary is used & planted to repel tick & fleas from areas it is planted as well as for dogs & cats to brush against in their gardens for natural "repellent". This may have been the original tick& flea repellent.

For us in the North we can bring our rosemary plants indoors in the winter keep well drained & sunny window..and back outside in the spring  summertime when frost has cleared.

If we use our plants for distillation of essential oils right from our gardens  & even by  rubbing  ourselves on our plants- we will be using our ancient wisdom, remembering what worked for those who came before us.

Catnip has been found by an Iowa State University Study to be ten times more effective than deet!! The essential oil contains "nepetalactone" oil and most insects especially ticks & fleas  cannot stand  it. It is easy to grow but spreads easily, plant along cedar walkways for great tick & insect repellent.Plant it where you do not mind it spreading- Or plant in pots as you do peppermint & spearmints!

Thank you! Have a Peaceful Summer! Earthmuffin

Herb Keeping 101

Posted on July 7, 2017 at 12:45 AM

1. Freezing.

Rinse herbs, remove leaves from stems and air dry to remove surface moisture.

Here are three ways to freeze herbs:

~ In a ball: place leaves in a small freezer bag, pack them into a tight and squeeze out air. Use a grater to shave off the frozen herbs as                            needed.

~ Individually: Arrange herbs loosely in a freezer bag so you can pull out  a leaf or two.

~ Make a Puree: Place the  herbs and a small amount of olive oil in a blender and make a puree. Spoon it  into a freezer bag or container                                 scoop out as needed. Freeze puree in ice cube trays , or pop out the cubes and store them in a freezer bag.

2. Drying.

~ Use a stacking rack: arrange herbs in a single layer . Turn the herbs occasionally  for even drying.

~ Hang them to Dry: Gather stems into small bunches, secure with rubber bands and hang them from hooks on a drying rack away from                                        light; a nice  breeze is okay.

~ Tip: Keep dust and light away off herbs by cutting a hole in the bottom of a small paper  bag and placing it over the stems before hanging.            They look like covered by paper shade..

Once Herbs are completely dry, pick off the leaves and store in airtight jars.
