Homemade Herbal Chest Cold Vapor Rub
Many people choose to avoid Vicks because of chemicals and artificial ingredients that they would rather not put on their child's or their own delicate skin, but you must admit the stuff is awesome at relieving coughs and colds, so try this homemade version instead!
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons beeswax
25-30 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
20-25 drops rosemary essential oil
10-15 drops lavender essential oil
Melt the olive oil & beeswax in a small saucepan on low heat until melted, stirring with a wooden spoon. Turn off the heat & stir in the essential oils - drop by drop (keep stirring until all have been added). Pour into a small glass or metal container. Store in a cool, dry place for up to a year.

Over time ,toxins build up in the body as the result of pollutants in the air we breathe, the chemicals in the food and water we consume, and other means...Periodically the body seeks to rid itself of the toxins and release them from the tissues. The toxins enter the body via the blood stream causing the body to experience a "low" or "down" cycle. During such a cycle you may experience headaches,diarrhea,or depression.

Aromatherapy is rooted in herbal & folk medicine traditions which date back to prehistoric times. I visit only periodically for 45- minute class called "Inner Peace" ( as I have always kept sacred space & spa) in my home environment, my life.
Inner Peace promises to teach us the basics of "mindfulness" making us calmer, more productive, more focused, and more joyful.

It is like going to fitness class for the mind....

"if you want to ask a question or share- or if you just want a healing hug".....
A certain number of us know intuitively that much greater depths are possible.. But the fact that anybody goes in for 10 to 30 minutes to quiet their mind and tend to their body and listen to their heart......Hallelujah!

Throughout time, people who have lived & spent more time outdoors have known what to plant to keep insects from biting them constantly.
We seem to have forgotten some of these useful plants & their ease for growing......
Many of our ancestors lived where rosemary can be grown year round and knew what an effective repellent it was, it was used to clean & disinfect bacteria & kill insects during the "Great Plague". Rosemary is used & planted to repel tick & fleas from areas it is planted as well as for dogs & cats to brush against in their gardens for natural "repellent". This may have been the original tick& flea repellent.
For us in the North we can bring our rosemary plants indoors in the winter keep well drained & sunny window..and back outside in the spring summertime when frost has cleared.
If we use our plants for distillation of essential oils right from our gardens & even by rubbing ourselves on our plants- we will be using our ancient wisdom, remembering what worked for those who came before us.
Catnip has been found by an Iowa State University Study to be ten times more effective than deet!! The essential oil contains "nepetalactone" oil and most insects especially ticks & fleas cannot stand it. It is easy to grow but spreads easily, plant along cedar walkways for great tick & insect repellent.Plant it where you do not mind it spreading- Or plant in pots as you do peppermint & spearmints!

HERB KEEPING 101:
Rinse herbs, remove leaves from stems and air dry to remove surface moisture.
Here are three ways to freeze herbs:
~ In a ball: place leaves in a small freezer bag, pack them into a tight and squeeze out air. Use a grater to shave off the frozen herbs as needed.
~ Individually: Arrange herbs loosely in a freezer bag so you can pull out a leaf or two.
~ Make a Puree: Place the herbs and a small amount of olive oil in a blender and make a puree. Spoon it into a freezer bag or container scoop out as needed. Freeze puree in ice cube trays , or pop out the cubes and store them in a freezer bag.
~ Use a stacking rack: arrange herbs in a single layer . Turn the herbs occasionally for even drying.
~ Hang them to Dry: Gather stems into small bunches, secure with rubber bands and hang them from hooks on a drying rack away from light; a nice breeze is okay.
~ Tip: Keep dust and light away off herbs by cutting a hole in the bottom of a small paper bag and placing it over the stems before hanging. They look like covered by paper shade..
Once Herbs are completely dry, pick off the leaves and store in airtight jars.
